What is pet health insurance?

Pet health insurance helps to pay for veterinary care when your fur-kids become ill or injured. Allowing you peace of mind in the knowledge that their health is covered, and you won't have to make hard decisions as a result of finances.

Why do I need pet health insurance?

Like humans, it is integral to ensure that your fur-family's health is safeguarded, as you can't predict what the future holds. We ensure that they have access to the best care possible in the event of an illness or accident, without having to make heartbreaking choices based on finances.

What does Pet Insurance cover?

We cover up to 90% of the veterinary bills for unexpected illnesses or injuries that your fur-kids may suffer.

How much does it cost?

The premium for et Insurance is R 237.00 pm for dogs and R165.00 pm for cats, accident only cover is R100.00 pm effective 01 June 2017 till 31 May 2018.

Are premiums based on breed or age?

Nope, we don't discriminate.

At what age can my pet join?

Any dog or cat over the age of 8 weeks and under the age of 8 years may sign up with us.

Does my pet have to be microchipped or tattooed for cover?

Nope, it's not necessary for cover with Pet Insurance.

Does my pet have to be spayed for cover?

Nope, we highly recommend you spay your fur-family, but we don't exclude them if they aren't spayed.

What are pre-existing conditions?

These are any conditions (prior injuries, recurring injuries, etc.) or illnesses that showed symptoms prior to joining Pet Insurance. These include any symptoms that occur during the first-month policy waiting period. Some pre-existing conditions may be subject to a specific waiting period or be excluded from cover. When signing up, you will see that the application form has a few questions regarding your fur-babies medical history. You should be completely honest when answering these questions. Knowingly misleading the insurance company about your pet’s previous problems is considered fraud and could result in your policy being cancelled and claims not being paid. After receiving your application, Pet Insurance will inform you of any exclusions your fur-child may have in writing, allowing you to make an informed decision regarding their insurance.

If you have recently adopted your fur-baby how do you know if a condition is pre-existing?

In the case where your fur-kids history is unknown, we may ask for a veterinary check-up prior to acceptance. In this case the veterinary consultation will be for your account.

When does my cover begin? Are there waiting periods?

Cover begins on the first calendar month after sign-up. Cover for emergencies is immediate. There is a one month waiting period for all illnesses. This waiting period does not apply to emergency treatments.

Do you offer lifelong cover after a fur-child has been accepted and then goes over the covered age limit?

As long as your premiums are paid every month, your fur-kid will continue to enjoy full cover for its entire life.

Are there limits to how much is paid for treatments?

We don't believe in limits or sublimits for certain conditions, but all non-emergency treatments need to be pre-authorised by Pet Insurance.

Will a condition ever be considered pre-existing due to policy renewals?

Nope, your fur-kids policy will continue to be renewed each month, so long as your premiums are paid we consider this to be continuous cover and we do not exclude conditions from year to year.

Do you offer a multiple fur-family discount?

Nope, rather than raising our premium and offering various discounts, Pet Insurance offers all it’s customers the same affordable premium.

Does my fur-kids age or breed affect the premium I will have to pay?

Nope, we don't feel it’s fair to discriminate against your fur-family. They are family, and that is all that matters.

What are hereditary conditions?

Hereditary and congenital conditions are diseases or disorders that are inherited genetically. Certain breeds of dogs and cats are prone to specific conditions.

Are hereditary and breed related conditions covered?

Pet Insurance covers hereditary conditions. As long as your fur-child hasn’t been diagnosed with the condition, or isn’t showing symptoms of the condition before sign-on or within the 30 day illness waiting period, cover will be available.

Are age-related illnesses and medications covered?

Yip. As long as you pay your premiums, your fur-child will continue to be covered.

Do you cover prescription medications?

We do! Coverage for prescriptions is included, provided that they have been prescribed by the treating veterinarian as treatment for an illness or accident and the illness or accident is not a pre-existing condition. Vitamins and heartworm/flea and tick preventives and other medication related to routine care are not covered. If your fur-baby requires on-going medication for more three months, the medication may be deemed to be chronic and subject to clinical treatment protocols.
